Don’t pay tax when you own investment cars
Harry EdworthyShare
One of the primary advantages of owning investment cars is that they are tax-free in the UK. You do not have to pay capital gains tax when you sell an investment car for a profit, provided the car is owned personally by an individual. This is because HMRC classifies all cars as “wasting assets” due to the majority of cars depreciating.
For example:
You purchased a Ferrari F40 in 2013 for £400K.
You sold the car ten years later in 2023 for £2 million.
This results in a realised gain of £1.6 million, which equates to a profit after tax of £1.6 million.
Investment cars are now one of the few asset classes in the UK where you can enjoy tax-free gains.
