Four Investment Cars That are Rarer Than You Think

When it comes to investing in cars, rarity plays a crucial role in determining long-term value. Some vehicles might seem relatively common, but when you look at the production numbers, they’re actually incredibly rare. Here are four investment-worthy cars that are much harder to find than you might expect.

Aston Martin Vantage GT12: 100 Built

Why It’s Special: The GT12 is the most extreme version of the Vantage, featuring a naturally aspirated 6.0L V12, lightweight carbon fibre components, and aggressive aerodynamics. Originally named the GT3 before Porsche objected, Aston Martin produced just 100 units, making it one of their rarest modern cars.

Investment Potential: With such a limited run and its hardcore, track-focused nature, values have already started rising, well above the £250,000 price when new. Enthusiasts and collectors see it as a future classic, especially given the shift away from large displacement, naturally aspirated engines.

Jaguar Project 7: 250 Built

Why It’s Special: Inspired by the legendary Jaguar D-Type, the Project 7 is a lightweight, open-top roadster based on the F-Type but tuned for more power and sharper handling. With only 250 units produced, it’s one of Jaguar’s rarest modern sports cars that was priced at £135,000 when new..

Investment Potential: With its unique styling, motorsport heritage, and low production numbers, the Project 7 has strong long-term value potential. The limited production ensures exclusivity, making the P7 one of the most desirable and collectable modern Jags.

McLaren P1: 375 Built

Why It’s Special: As part of the Holy Trinity of hypercars, the McLaren P1 was a groundbreaking hybrid supercar when it launched. With 375 units worldwide, it’s rarer than the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder.

Investment Potential: Hypercars with limited production and legendary status tend to appreciate over time. The P1's hybrid technology, extreme performance, and McLaren’s racing pedigree make it extremely desirable, along with its contemporaries. This is already being reflected in market values which are significantly greater than the £866,000 price when new.

Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta: 499 Built

Why It’s Special: The 458 Speciale Aperta is the ultimate evolution of the naturally aspirated Ferrari V8, combining incredible performance with an open-top driving experience. Ferrari capped production at just 499 units, making it rarer than many of its predecessors.

Investment Potential: The last of the naturally aspirated V8 Ferraris is always going to be special. As Ferrari has moved towards hybrid and turbocharged engines, the Speciale Aperta's value continues to climb far above the £228,000 price when new. Limited numbers and raw performance make it a future blue-chip collector’s car.

Get Searching…

While some of these cars may not seem ultra-rare at first, their low production numbers make them highly desirable in the collector’s market. As manufacturers move towards electrification and hybridisation, these pure, combustion-engine machines (the P1 being the exception) are only going to become more sought after.
